A BRIEF HISTORY OF TRADITIONAL REIKI & MIKAO USUI

Reiki ('Ray-kee') means Universal Life Force Energy (in Japanese). Reiki also resurfaced in the early 20th century as a Holistic energy healing method by several benevolent healers in Asia and Japan; one was, Mikao Usui in the early 1900's in Japan. Mikao Usui (1865-1926) was intelligent, a compassionate healer and benevolent Buddhist practitioner, who was married and had a family. Usui practiced Reiki and taught it. He was Honored after his death for his amazing healing work by Emperor Meiji of Japan.

REIKI IN THE WEST

After Usui died (1926), his compassionate Reiki style and teachings were picked yup and later taught by others in Japan and the US, then globally after the 1980's. A Mrs Takata (native of Hawaii, half Japanese and half American) went to Japan in the 1930's because she was very sick and wanted the reiki healing cures that was well known in Tokyo Japan. When cured and having learned reiki in a year, she returned and practiced reiki in Hawaii for many years. not until 1972-76 did Takata decide to teach Reiki (she used a simpler reiki style w/ hands-on the body energy channeling) but at a high price of $10,000 /person; only 22 people took her reiki classes; 1 woman decided to teach it later on, though her reiki form was also different. Eventually reiki spread globally (to North America, EU, Latin America , Asia of course., Africa, India... ).

Nowadays globally many different Usui Reiki Schools exist ,

traditional Reiki is practiced as Hands on the body of the recipient mostly. some do Hands off the Body. Also Reiki can be given as Distant Reiki; every Practitioner varies in their skills, abilities, techniques etc. from the original Usui method; as each Reiki Practitioner has their own Soul consciousness, some human ego, Awareness and various knowledge, beliefs, Higher past life knowledge and experiences, . so they will offer different Reiki methods and charge certain fees
